The Ontonagon River controls much of Ontonagon County (east of the Porkies, that is). With branches reaching south of Bergland and Paulding and east to Sidnaw the watershed looks more like a set of gnarled roots than a river. The waters run milky brown year-round, soaking up the land's clay, tumbling over sandstone waterfalls, and pouring out to color Lake Superior's deep blue.
